A tiny tube with a light source and camera attached at its tip is used in fiberoptic laryngoscopy, a diagnostic procedure that helps the doctor examine your throat for issues. The treatment is carried out to look at the vocal chords and the back of the throat. Laryngoscopy is recommended to assist in the diagnosis of conditions based on symptoms like a persistent cough, bloody coughing, difficulty swallowing, persistent bad breath, respiratory tract issues in smokers, chronic throat pain, and voice issues like hoarseness that lasts for longer than three weeks. The operation can also be performed to remove an obstruction to the airway, collect a tissue sample or biopsy from the throat for further analysis. You won't be allowed to eat anything for six to twelve hours before the surgery. A small flexible telescope is inserted via the nose and into the throat during a fiberoptic laryngoscopy. To keep you comfortable and lessen your gag reaction, a spray is first used to numb your throat and the back of your nose.
