Superficial parotidectomy

Category Surgical

Superficial parotidectomy: the tumor is resected with a cuff of parotid tissue, used for benign lesions and lymph node metastasis into the superficial lobe. A parotidectomy is the surgical excision of the parotid gland, the major and largest of the salivary glands. The procedure is most typically performed due to neoplasms, which are growths of rapidly and abnormally dividing cells. Neoplasms can be benign or malignant.

Parotid tumors often cause swelling in the face or jaw that usually isn't painful. Other symptoms include numbness, burning or prickling sensations in the face, or a loss of facial movement.
