Adenoidectomy

An adenoidectomy is the surgical removal of the adenoids. It's one of the most common surgical procedures done on children, along with the removal of tonsils. If swollen adenoids bother your child and don't respond to medicine, a healthcare provider may recommend an adenoidectomy. Adenoid removal also called an adenoidectomy, is a common surgery to remove adenoids. The adenoids are glands located in the roof of the mouth, behind the soft palate where the nose connects to the throat. The adenoids produce antibodies, or white blood cells, that help fight infections. Typically, the adenoids shrink during adolescence and may disappear by adulthood.
