Ossiculoplasty

Ossiculoplasty is the reconstruction of the middle ear ossicular chain which has been disrupted or destroyed, by the use of some interposition devices which helps in regaining the original mechanics of the ossicular chain to transfer the sound energy to the inner ear. Ossiculoplasty is the surgical restoration of the sound-transmitting mechanism of the middle ear. A myriad of prosthetics and surgical techniques have been described over the last half-century, with no overall consensus on the ideal method of treatment.

The majority of the ossiculoplasties improved their hearing status satisfactorily. Multivariate analysis should be performed to investigate prognostic factors of favorable short-term hearing outcomes after ossiculoplasty. Better knowledge of these predictive factors may contribute to the surgeon's judgment and the information given to patients.
