Grommet Insertion

Grommet Insertion is a treatment that is usually done in the case of children suffering from different types of ear ailment otitis media. Otitis Media is an inflammatory disease of the middle ear. Intermittent pain in the ear accompanied in rare cases with fever are symptoms of Otitis Media. Grommets are usually inserted to treat 'glue ear' (fluid in the middle ear) or prevent recurrent otitis media (middle ear infection). A grommet is a small ventilation tube inserted into the eardrum to allow air into the middle ear and prevent a build-up of fluid. Grommets are tiny tubes inserted into the eardrum. They allow air to pass through the eardrum, keeping the air pressure on either side equal. The surgeon makes a tiny hole in the eardrum and inserts the grommet into the hole.
